🔴 Disobedience is Costly and Dangerous

“Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank” - (Numbers 20:11).

Thoughts for Today

The chosen people of God were, once again, complaining to Moses. Since their escape from Egypt, they had grumbled and whined. They missed the rich food of Egypt. They wanted the comfort they had known, forgetting they had been slaves.

Finally, they were on the edge of the land God promised them. They brought their latest grief to Moses—no water. Moses once again cried out to the Lord who said, "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water" (Numbers 20:8). Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock. In his anger, he did not obey the Lord's command.

How many times do we know what we are supposed to do, but we choose to do things our own way? Then, we try to justify our actions because we were tired, upset, or even angry.

No doubt Moses was frustrated with the people and tired of their complaining. He had a choice of whether or not to obey God, just as we do. He blatantly disobeyed. Disobedience is costly and dangerous. When we disobey, we deviate from God's plan.

Did God deny Moses water, even though he didn't obey His command? No. God, in His mercy and grace, forgave Moses. However, Moses' disobedience cost him entrance into the Promised Land.

Have you disobeyed God's commands? Are you willing to pay the price of disobedience? Remember, God does not ask more than we can do. Instead, He seeks our obedience so we can walk with Him and do His will.

Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father, I am sorry for the times I have disobeyed you. I ask for Your forgiveness and I pray for the strength to obey you in the future as I walk out Your will in my life. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
