A Powerful Prayer during Depression and Anxiety

Going through depression is not easy but God understands you. It is a very human emotion. Everything passes, and this will pass as well. Put yourself in our Lord's hands and you will overcome all things.

  1. Well this was absolutely awful. Even more depressing to hear and contemplate the dark words in the first 2 minutes of the 3 minute message. God doesn't want you to think miserable thoughts, hoe much worse to see them written over and over. Definitely not a message of hope. When you speak these negative words out loud you are giving the enemy a foothold. Speak and focus only on the positive so God's light can warm you and calm you from inside. Tell him you need him and trust him. Thank him for what you DO have, any little thing, your cat, that you have food to eat, and your vision, things that seemingly are meaningless in the face of your depression, but God knows what you need and he will taie care of you. This is only a short season, God has a plan for your future, for Favor and Hope. Look for what is good around you and focus on those: the sunrise, tiny birds, the ocean. Do something good for someone else, help them up even when you think you are so low you cannot. Be God's hand in someone elses life on Earth, volunteer at a nursing home or buy some food to the homeless girl begging on the corner. You can get through this, you are NEVER alone. Blessings and Favor surround you and God has a wonderous plan for you!

    1. Have you not read the Psalms of Lament? This "prayer" copies their form and content. Sometimes people suffering from depression or any other affliction need words with which to express their innermost selves to God. They need to feel heard before they can hear any positive suggestions. To ignore this is to risk pressing them further into depression with the sense that you don't hear them, don't understand them, don't accept them as they are at this moment. To suggest that they volunteer at a nursing home when they can't even get out of bed, can't shower, can't brush their teeth makes YOU the one out of touch with reality. The reality is, depression is a brain disease--an illness. Telling someone who is sick with this illness to focus on the positive is like telling someone with a broken leg that they would feel so much better if they would run a mile every day. Their brain is broken--if they COULD think positive thoughts, they wouldn't be depressed.

  2. The unknown who responded to the first person. Thank you, because you get it . It's like telling a drug addict "Just stop using". It's a sickness, a disease if they could stop don't you think they would. If they could stop the negative thoughts or pull themselves up by their bootstraps they would. They already feel lost in an ocean of life or unheard by the world. Sometimes we just have to hold people, just listen to people, we can't fix anyone, only God can, sometimes the most and best thing we can do for people is pray.
