ANSWER: 20 Kings - Southern Kingdom (Judah)

  • 19 Kings (Northern Kingdom- Israel).
  • United Israel Kingdom - 3 Kings

As prophesied by Ahijah (1 Kings 11:31-35), the house of Israel was divided into two kingdoms. When Solomon learned of the prophecy, he sought to kill Jeroboam, (a servant of Solomon, from the tribe of Ephraim, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow)who fled to Egypt for sanctuary (1 Kings 11:26-40). This division, which took place approximately 975 B.C., after the death of King Solomon, the kingdom was divided in two. Jeroboam returned from Egypt and The northern tribes ( The ten tribes lived in the north called themselves Israel) crowned Jeroboam as their king. Only Judah and Benjamin remained loyal to King Rehoboam, called themselves Judah (Southern Kingdom).
