The Six Mary's of the New Testament
1) Mary, the mother of Jesus
Mary the mother of Jesus, was the virgin chosen by Almighty God to bear His Son Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Mary was living in Nazareth, a city of Galilee, when the angel Gabriel announced the virgin birth to her. (Luke 1:26-27- " In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary.").
2) Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a follower of Jesus Christ, and Luke 8:2 says "and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,". Mary Magdalene was the first person to see the risen Jesus Christ when He rose from the dead, and she brought the news of the empty tomb to Peter and John shortly after He arose from the dead .(John 20:18 - "Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.").
3) Mary of Bethany
This Mary lived in Bethany, a town near Jerusalem and she was the sister of Lazarus and Martha. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus' home was often visited by Jesus and his disciples. It was Mary of Bethany who sat at the feet of Jesus to listen to His words while Martha set up for dinner.(Luke 10:38–42 - "Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”).
4) Mary, the Mother of James
Mary, the mother of James and the wife of Clopas (also called Alphaeus in Luke 6:15-"and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,"). She is mentioned in Mark 15:40-"There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.", as watching the crucifixion of Christ.
5) Mary, the mother of John Mark
Mary, the mother of John Mark(the author of the Gospel of Mark) mentioned in Acts 12:12 - "When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.". Her home had been made available for believers to pray, and it was during one of their prayer meetings that Peter was miraculously released from prison.
6) Mary, member of the church at Rome
This Mary in the Bible is mentioned in the book of Romans, as a member of the church at Rome. In his letter, Apostle Paul includes her among the many people to thank and describes her as someone who "worked very hard" on behalf of the church.
