4 ways to Defeat Depression 🧡

In life, as we all know, up's and down's are bound to happen. And, sometimes the down's you experience can be the lowest of the lows. All those circumstances will twirl, echo and corner you to think, that it's all your fault. This will eventually, leave you to feel guilty, hopeless and defeated! The Depression that has been lurking around will pave way to your innermost soul and gradually start eating its way down, which may lead you to harmful situations. 

 Four ways to defeat depression: 

1: Make Healthy habits and Draw closer to God - Making good life choices in all aspects of life, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual can lift depression in the long run. Make it a practice to wake up early in the morning and to chat with God first and read His promises. 

Eat healthy, Keep yourself hydrated, motivated and working out , which helps in clearing unhealthy mood changes. It's ok to leave toxic friendships and family, if they are not there for a positive improvement in life then forgive and leave them, but pray for them. Make it a habit to listen to the HolySpirit for wisdom, directions and discernment. Always have a grateful heart and keep counting your blessings. Also, keep renewing your mind in God's word,  "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." - Philippians 4:8

As children of God, we’re never alone. Our Heavenly Father loves us on our worst days. We have a Shepherd who walks with us through the darkest valleys. We have a Savior with power to pull us out of the deepest pit. He’s our truest source of hope, strength, and encouragement. Draw closer to God and Ask Him to make wise decisions for you. 

God promises each one of us that He is close by, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18.  God’s Word offers encouragement, hope, and strength for hard days. You never know how God might speak to you until you crack open your Bible and start reading.

2: Don't lose Prespective - Depression may feel like a long lost road without a horizon, but even in that long lost road, you will meet with a path to make a choice, right? Similarly, even the deepest depression will sooner or later be lifted by God’s healing power. For the believer in Christ, hope and joy are always around the corner. Remember, Psalm 30:5 offers a word of hope: “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” God wants you to focus on His will and not how this world is asking you to shift your prespective according to its age and time. God is offering you to rest in Him and to follow His lead. His command for  you to keep prespective is from this Scripture verses: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."- Romans 12:2

3: Do something Creative - Be creative by doing simple art work, doodle, have a hobby of collecting stamps, stickers, Bible verses, or rock painting, sewing, flower arranging, knitting, writing a poem or a short story, Painting, crafts, make a song for fun, read a Christian Historical fiction book or maybe write a book. Start a book club maybe. Do a little tea party with simple snacks with your family by making it presentable, Bake for fun, do a Bible study with a friend/family, or with a youth. Find places to volunteer and to serve. 

Being creative helps us to be focused and shift our thoughts from any negative ideas. 

There is so many opportunities to be creative and to enjoy this sweet life that God gave us. It helps us feel productive and can renew our motivation for living. Yes, there will be days where you won't feel or think that you want to be creative, but remember, Matthew 19:26 - "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are Possible." Therefore, just go to God, chit chat with Him and ask Him what to do next, He will guide you. He will never leave you alone, He wants you to seek Him with all things. His good plans are always for you. 

4: Keep a Personal Journal - Take 5 minutes a day to write down one Scripture promise to meditate and to pray about it. It will be a thought that you can hold on and carry it for that day and so on another promise for the next day.  Depression can rob life of its meaning and leave us feeling useless and unimportant, but by keeping a  Bible Journal of  prayers, promises and positive thoughts can bring rest in Him and will fill you with His peace. 

You can start with this Bible Promise, if you want to, "But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord [those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced]; this is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me [this is that which I impart to them as their justification], says the Lord. " Isaiah 54:17

And, yes, we are Human, we mess up sometime, but when we lean on and have our complete trust and hope put in Christ Jesus, deliverance happens! His compassion overflows towards us with so much power and kindness. 

As we draw near to God, and practice and apply these 4 ways in your lives, let’s remember we don’t have to put on a holy happy face. We can be ourselves. Let’s pour our hearts out to Him and tell Him the same things we’d tell our best friend. He longs to hear our deepest thoughts and sorrows. We’ll experience friendship with God on a whole new level and receive more of His unconditional love. Praise God!

Dear God, 

Please save me from all the deceptions that the evil one brings up. Help me to renew my mind towards your promises. I want to make you my priority before all things. Thank you for hearing me, healing me and delivering me from any unhealthy lifestyle. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
