ENCOURAGING WORD:
Importance of Obedience

Today's Scripture

“So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.” - Deuteronomy 29:9 .

Thoughts for Today

What a glorious promise! God told the Israelites that they could prosper in all that they did! But, as with all of His promises, there were conditions. They needed to obey His Word.

In ways they may not have anticipated, this command would present challenges. They would learn that they needed to obey even when it meant doing things they didn’t want to do…even when confronted by the pressure to conform to neighboring peoples…and even when it would be easier to compromise. It meant trusting Him, in every situation, confident that He would keep His Word.

Every step of the way, they could remember His promise of prosperity. They just needed to “keep the words of this covenant.” This covenant was to be the foundation for their lives, their constant guide and companion.

God was establishing a principle that would be true throughout all time, for all peoples, for He is the same throughout all generations. And, as His Word makes clear, He has the same desire to bless His people and grant us health and prosperity today.

God continues to remind us of the importance of obedience, of living according to His Word, and of keeping His commandments. We must never forget the importance of tithing (Malachi 3:10) and heeding the eternal principle of Seedtime and Harvest (Genesis 8:22). We must remember, as Jesus taught, that if we give, “it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38).

Today, remember that God’s promises apply to you! Don’t let doubt keep you from experiencing all that He has prepared for you. Seek to be a trustworthy steward. As you are faithful, fully expect that He will reward you with His abundant blessings.

Prayer : Our Loving Heavenly Father,

I believe that Your promises are true. Thank You for Your promise to prosper me. I will do my part by obeying You and keeping Your commands. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
