ANSWER: Elizabeth

"And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!" - Luke 1:41-42

ENCOURAGING WORD:
Be an Elizabeth!

When we read Luke 1, we can see, Elizabeth was a respectable woman married to a priest, Zechariah, a member of the Jerusalem priesthood. She was past menopause, her husband was elderly, and she already had given up hoping for a child. But her life took an unanticipated turn. She became pregnant at her old age, to the surprise of all.

As per Luke 1:13,
“You shall call his name John”, Elizabeth knew what the angel had told Zacharias. When its about time to circumcise John, Zacharias was unable to speak. So it was up to Elizabeth to stand up to all the families and friends and oppose them concerning their proposed name for the baby. It took lot of courage for Elizabeth to stand firm and obey God.

While she was pregnant with the John the Baptist, she gave shelter to her young cousin Mary of Nazareth. Mary, pregnant with Jesus and unmarried, may have been fleeing from the anger of her family. When the women met, each knew that they and their children would be an amazing part of God’s plan.

After few months, Elizabeth bore the son she had always hoped for. She named him ‘John’. He was circumcised, and Zechariah regained his speech and hearing.

She didn't doubt the God’s Word, but lived it as much as she believed it. She and her husband are described in the Bible as being “blameless”. Keep in mind that this does not mean that Elizabeth did not sin, but that she took the appropriate measures if and when she did sin. As with Abraham, her faith credited to her as righteousness, and she was looked upon with God’s favor, as she was given the gift of “one who would call out in the desert”.
Elizabeth and Zachariah taught John the baptist about God and the role and mission God wanted him to fulfill. Are we doing that with our children? Do our children aware about the ways of God and do they know why they were born into this world? I really believe we must follow the example set by Elizabeth and Zachariah?

Elizabeth exhibits numerous treasured gifts of the Spirit, namely Faith, and Discernment. She gives birth to the forerunner of Jesus’ ministry, John the Baptist. She was sold out for God, and every aspect of her life is proof of this. Revered as one of the most prominent women of the Bible, she is an amazing example to live a Godly life, and a beautiful example of the Proverbs 31 woman that is an inspiration to all women.

Be an Elizabeth, never doubt what God can do. Miracles do happen.
Amen.
