What Happens When You Stop Going To Church ?

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor’s visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a big chair near the fireplace and waited.

The pastor made himself comfortable but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the play of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone. Then he sat back in his chair, still silent.

The host watched all this in quiet fascination. As the one lone ember’s flame diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and “dead as a doornail.” Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. Just before the pastor was ready to leave, he picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.

As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said, “Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I shall be back in church next Sunday.”

Keep on glowing in your life. So go to church daily or as often as you can.

  1. I don't go to church anymore. I pray, I read, I study, and worship God. I love Him today, more than yesterday and I know more about Him now, than I ever learned in a building... The Lord is not confined to a building, He's umnipresent, and wherever two or more gathered in His name !

    1. thanks for that response ms Jones. I still read my scriptures myself and often times do my tithing by reaching out to people who are in need of a comforting word or at times financial aid during my daily journey . I believe that is what the teachings of Jesus Christ encouraged us to do. not to stay in the church and become judgemental of others .

    2. Your are decieving yourselves my brothers, that's ignorance of God's mind ....bible says"""...the spirit fell whre they were gathered together(that's a church) and bible also says""",,forsake not your assemblies(church),,.and God said to a rich man. ...i have Moses and the prophets(pastors),,.not yourself reading a bible in your house. .."Philip said; understandest thou what thou readest?.,...

    3. It's important to rightfully interpret the Word before quoting and applying your own understanding. Holy Spirit was the promise of Jesus to those gathered in the upper room fellowshipping as an assembly. Scripture says in the last day you will no longer have need for your neighbor to teach you. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will guide and lead us in ALL truth. God is raising up His chosen that like Mary have chosen to sit at His feet not in some building being taught man made religious beliefs. If you study the life of Jesus He ministered to the needs of those outside the walls because those that were leaders inside did not believe (you know, a form of Godliness but denying the power). I pray that God will open your eyes and ear to hear HIS Spirit. Be blessed!

    4. The church is not a building, it is the body of believers. What good can a hand do alone, wouldn't it travel further connected to feet? Where can the body go safely without eyes? So this "assembling together" is less about weekly services and more about daily fellowship with other believers. Even Jesus had community! He had wealthy friends who supported His ministry and fed Him when He was in town; He had an inner circle of disciples He was especially close too; He even begged them to pray for Him, but they fell asleep instead. He needed their support! How much more of we need each other? The world kicks us every day, in every which way. Church is not a substitute for the Holy Spirit or a relationship with God, but the church is God's Bride, who He is coming back for. It is to our advantage to bear each other's burdens and protect each other, and work together to further the Gospel. If you don't find that in your church, find a new church, but don't leave church altogether.

    2. Not the building, the organization. You can all spread your money in bits and pieces where you feel like it; or pool your resources together to spiritually and physically feed and heal ppl in your community. Churchbisnt on the weekend, its every day. And it's not the building, but the believers you love, live and work with.

    2. But did you ever stop to think you're depriving others of your presence? If the church is bad, and you're good, the church needs you to make it better!

  4. I am in a similar position...
Church had been a focus and praise and worship in that setting something I looked forward to eagerly.
But....the message I received seemed off. Not really about the flock. More about the pretty building... No intimacy as a Church anymore. Grown too big. Started with 90. Now over 2000. Not

    1. It's ok to leave the church you're at if something is off, and you want to find a new congreagation. But there's more safety being in a flock than being a lone sheep off to the side of the pasture. That's where the wolves hang out.

  5. I stop going to church because i found that the boys and girls that attended the church are so annoying.. they dressed their best to impress each other.. they spoke about God's love but they stab a knife to each other back... they try so hard to sing just to impress the opposite sex.. omg! Im out!...

  6. I think there are many challenges with 'church' but so are there challenges with every institution, including family, work, school etc. I believe, we should see ourselves as part of the community of believers. And take part of the blame as individuals and also take up some responsibilities in church to help make things better. I believe that instead of us only pointing out the rot in church, we should become part of the people helping to bring the healing required to get the church on its feet. In Africa we say, don't throw the baby away with the dirty bath water. So yes, the baby is not 'clean', but it requires cleaning not discarding. Let's help to make her ( the church) without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5: 27). Let's take up the challenge.

  7. A supervisor once says to me she don't goes to church anymore she stays home and worship as she was once a member on the choir and states her discomfort..
As I pick up my lunch kit and walk to the lunchroom thinking and as I sit down and was about to start eating 😲😲 wow..wow
been alone the LORD start speaking
He says would you have a party
and with all things included and sit all by yourself and enjoy the party? wouldn't you invited others too to come and be a part of it..
I went back immediately to the office and repeat what the Lord told me..
We don't have problems going back to work, party, club, abusive relationship, etc but we all have problems with going back to church as issues arise..
A sister in church hated me for what i couldn't tell i always go and sit near her as she looks around with hatred in her face i gave her a smile 😊😊😊 after not seeing her for a couple week she appears again and she turns around to give me a cold stare i uttered how are you are you ok with a beautiful smile and she suddenly smile and she call me beside her hug me and told me what she was going through...
Stop battering church and help to dress the wound of someone and don't let the wounded soldier died make a difference and be a light in your church so someone can come to when they're hurting I 💕 Love my church with all my heart and no one can make me leave my leader is wonderful Man Of God let us hold up their hands like Aaron did with Moses...
