Who was the first priest mentioned in the Bible?

ANSWER: Melchizedek
 (Genesis 14:18)
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
ENCOURAGING WORD:
Our Faith Walk

We read in Scripture: “So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left’” - (Genesis 13:8-9).

Thoughts for Today

Many things can set us back in our faith walk. Sometimes they are distractions, such as busyness or even laziness. But sometimes our obstacles stem from our willful nature: self-centeredness, disobedience and even disbelief.

When Abraham leaves Egypt in Genesis 13, he returns physically and spiritually to the place where God had originally called him. Yet Abraham once again faces a challenge.

Abraham’s nephew, Lot, allowed his greed and self-centeredness to disrupt both his relationship with Abraham and with God. Because Abraham trusted in God’s promised blessings, he refused to quarrel over resources with Lot.

We read in Scripture: “So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left’” (Genesis 13:8-9).

Lot allowed selfish ambition to weaken his faith—and in his weakness, he became more influenced by the sinfulness of his new neighbors in Sodom and Gomorrah than by God’s commandments.

Prayer : Our Loving Heavenly Father,

I pray that I would not allow selfish ambition to weaken my faith. Help me not to be influenced by the sinfulness of those around me. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
