PSALM 91 - I Love to DWELL in the SHELTER of the Lord Almighty

There are two conditions essential to activate the Promises contained in this Psalm.

Condition #1:

We must first choose to go to the secret place of the Most High.

In order to find rest in the shadow of the Almighty, there is a condition attached to it.  •

• Three blessings in the Secret Place:

  1. It is a place of Safety and Protection.
  2. It is a place of Relationship and Nurturing.
  3. It is a place of Provision—God meets all needs.

Condition #2:

I will NOT be SILENT!

 “I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.” –  Psalm 91:2

We have to make the choice that we will no longer be silent when it comes to God’s Word. The Bible doesn’t say to just think about the Word. It says to speak it loud!

The Fortress:

  • The word fortress literally means a place of defense.
  • It is a place so strong that an enemy could not even approach it much less conquer it.
  • Such fortresses were often constructed on the rocks or on hills.
  • Those who fled there would be completely safe and high above the trouble below.

My God:

• Elyon – Most High - Possession

• Shaddai– Almighty - Provision

• Yahweh – Lord - Promise

• Elohim– Creator God – Power

"So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." - Isaiah 55:11

10 Promises of Psalm 91
  1.  RESCUE ME from hidden traps and deadly pestilence. (Psalm 91:3)
    1. God rescues His people from those who would snare them as fowlers snare birds.
      When plagues and diseases strike, God protects His people as well.
  2.  SHIELD ME and COVER ME under His wings. (Psalm 91:4).

  3. Matthew 23:37 - “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!  It is like the mother hen. God stretches His wings and offers protection, but we must run to Him first. Under the protective wings of a mother hen you can seek refuge.

  4.  NOT ALLOW DANGER to come near me. ( Psalm 91:7)
  5. "fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - GOD (Isaiah 41:10 ESV)
  6.  NOT ALLOW ANY EVIL OR ANY PLAGUE come near my tent. (Psalm 91:10)
  7. "My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." - Isaiah 32:18 ESV
  8.  ORDER HIS ANGELS to GUARD ME. (Psalm 91:11)
  9. This promise was quoted and twisted by satan in Jesus' temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:5-7). "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them." - Psalm 34:7
  10.  NOT ALLOW STRIKE MY FOOT AGAINST A STONE. (Psalm 91:12)
  11. While Jesus was tempted, the angels helped Him, just not in the way the devil suggested. (Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.- Matthew 4:11)
  12.  EMPOWER ME to trample deadly enemies under my foot( even over strong opponents such as young Lion, Cobra...). (Psalm 91:13)
  13.             Luke 10:19 – "Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means harm you." - JESUS
     Jesus has authority over the devil and He has given it to us.
    Zechariah 4:6-7 - "It is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord that this mountain before you, Zerubbabel, will become a plain."                                                               You may have a mountain before you or a giant taunting you. But, you have authority in Jesus name to bring him down and use his own weapon to cut his head off! In other words, through Jesus you can turn those attacks into triumphs!
  14.  DELIVER me and PROTECT me. (Psalm 91:14)
  15. "The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen." - 2 Timothy 4:18 ESV
  16.  ANSWER ME, HONOR ME and HE WILL BE WITH ME in trouble. (Psalm 91:15)      "When a person truly knows and loves God, He promises to answer their prayers.              "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me." - Psalm 120:1
  17. "For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies."- Psalm 54:7
  18.  SATISFY ME with long life and SHOW ME HIS SALVATION. (Psalm 91:16)
  19. Not every believer will receive the benefits of this Psalm, only those who have chosen to believe and confess the promises found here. You can either run to the Lord’s place of refuge in faith or you can passively live your life not realizing that you can do something about it.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your amazing protection in my life.
Thank you for rescuing me from all lives harm.
Thank you for your shelter and guidance.
Thank you for being my strong tower and for the safe place to hide under your wings. Thank you Lord for covering me with your mighty wings. I love you Lord. Guide me in your path of righteousness and let me rest in your care forever. In Jesus name. Amen.

My Refuge and My Fortress - Psalms 91:1-16 ESV
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
